This year his biennial London exhibition is showing over 60 different paintings from the Cuzco School of Art, beautifully reminiscent of the colours, textures and subjects of the late 15th Century European Old Masters, such as Rubens, Caravaggio and Zurbaran. Founded in the early 16th Century by two Italian Jesuits, astonishingly this form of painting continues throughout Peru to this day, having evolved into a popular stylised folk art, using the original religious themes and still painted in the beautiful Spanish Baroque fashion. |
The paintings in the 2011 Exhibition date from approximately 1790 to 1980, all are original, of varying sizes and the majority framed; prices range from £150 to £650. |
